Synopsis

A short course abridged from the book authored by the great Hanafi Jurist and Mufti of Damascus, Dr. Shaykh Muhammad Abu Yusr ‘Abidin.

The title the shaykh chose for the book is the verse from Surah Az-Zumar, “Turn to your Lord. Submit to Him before the punishment overtakes you and you can no longer be helped.” (39:54). This course will provide students with an introduction to the discipline of Ihsan/Spirituality, the third dimension of the religion in the well-known hadith of Jibril, upon him peace.

The unique feature of this book is that it utilises stories and anecdotes from the life of the beloved Prophet ﷺ, the noble Sahaba and the early pious Muslims of Islam, to help highlight the main spiritual maladies of the heart and soul, and how to rid oneself of them, whilst delineating fundamental concepts of spiritual refinement, and how to employ these practically in one’s life to cultivate a sound and purified heart.
